John’s Story of Transformation (Overcoming Anger, Spiritual Growth)

John Evans changed.

Every time he saw the news, John’s blood boiled. His fists clenched in frustration as he heard politicians make dumb decisions and foolish statements. When they went against his core values, he raged inside against their foolishness and ungodliness. At times, he wanted to put his fist through the wall. Soon after seeing the news, he encountered his wife in the kitchen.

As soon as she heard his feet stomping and saw his red face, she clenched her stomach because she knew what was coming. Ranting and raving, he loudly told her why what “they” were doing was so stupid and terrible for our country. As usual, she said nothing but “Yes, dear” and wished she could escape his intensity.

Finally, one day, she told him how much his behavior hurt her. John felt bad but was not sure what to do differently since the politicians were likely to keep acting foolishly and make him mad. He prayed about it and tried to change. Years and years went by. He told his wife, “This is just the way I am. I’m an intense, passionate guy with what I think is righteous anger.” She gave up.

But one year, John did change. He worked through the Character Change Plan, and God changed him. John no longer boils with anger over the news. His wife, Linda, tells people he is not the same man.

Can Christians Really Change? (Building Godly Character)

How did that happen? What did John do differently? This transformation is not unique to John. You can make it happen, too.

What could you change?

Stay focused on changing your one trait for at least three months.

My heart is for your progress and joy in the faith (Philippians 1:21). You don’t have to be that way. You can change by God’s power.
